Liverpool City Region reported on 15 October that its Innovation Zone had secured £510 million in committed investment, as the programme won Global and European Rising Stars awards.

The programme combines the city region’s Freeport and Life Sciences Investment Zone and is backed by £185 million of government funding over ten years. The authority forecasts more than 16,000 jobs and over £1.6 billion of investment. Those projected totals are not jobs already filled or money already spent.
Named examples include Finsa’s £20 million logistics headquarters in Birkenhead and iiCON’s £20 million Liverpool Accelerate Laboratory. The test is how commitments become local employment and whether smaller firms can reach the pipeline.
