Steve Rotheram has backed a Joint Declaration of Intent between Liverpool City Region and Greater Bengaluru Authority to strengthen trade, investment and economic cooperation.

The agreement covers innovation, science and technology, higher education and skills, life sciences, advanced manufacturing, digital technology and artificial intelligence. It also proposes closer links in culture, sport and tourism.
Officials signed the declaration during Liverpool City Region's first trade mission to India, as the University of Liverpool opened its Bengaluru campus.
The declaration sets out an intention to encourage cooperation between public bodies, businesses, universities and research and cultural organisations. It also lays groundwork for a more detailed memorandum of understanding.
Rotheram said Liverpool City Region and Bengaluru have complementary strengths and that the first test would be whether the relationship produces tangible results for businesses, researchers and young people.
The mayor said the UK-India trade agreement created further opportunities and that the city region wanted to be well placed to attract investment and create jobs from the developing relationship.
