Michelle Welsh has demanded clear answers for families after Nottingham University Hospitals confirmed that a maternity database had been overwritten and that parts of its historic access audit trail could not be recovered.
The trust said an error occurred on 18 August during work intended to copy a radiotherapy database. Pre-written instructions were instead run against an old maternity database containing records from September 2011 to November 2022.
Nottingham University Hospitals said it had restored the clinical information needed for patient care, including notes, observations and test results. It has not, however, restored the complete history showing who viewed records during that period.
Welsh and other Nottinghamshire MPs said families require a clear account of what was lost, what has been recovered and any consequences for the police assessment linked to Operation Perth. They also sought deadlines and external scrutiny for improvements to governance, testing and backups.
The trust notified the Information Commissioner's Office and Nottinghamshire Police. It said current maternity patients and present-day care were not affected, and that no patient information was accessed or used inappropriately as a result of the incident.
Welsh is the Labour MP for Sherwood Forest and the Department of Health and Social Care's maternity and neonatal adviser. Her intervention focuses on accountability and the remaining evidential gap, rather than suggesting that clinical records required for current care remain missing.
