Lynda Thorne has backed a proposal to renew additional licensing for houses in multiple occupation in Plasnewydd, Cardiff Council announced on 9 October.

Cabinet will consider the proposal on 15 October. If it agrees to proceed, the council plans a two-month public consultation before a decision on renewing the scheme for another five years.
The additional scheme covers smaller shared properties outside the national mandatory licensing requirements. It is intended to help the council oversee housing conditions and landlords’ compliance.
Additional licensing began in Plasnewydd in 2014 and was last renewed in 2021. The council says 878 properties have been licensed under the scheme since that renewal.
Thorne, a Labour councillor for Grangetown with responsibility for housing and communities, said the arrangements supported work to improve standards in shared accommodation.
The latest announcement is a proposal for renewal and consultation. Residents and landlords should not read it as confirmation that a further five-year scheme has already been approved or that consultation has opened.
