Midlothian MP Kirsty McNeill has welcomed the publication of the full route for the opening stage of the 2027 Tour de France, which will bring the world's most famous cycle race through her constituency.

"The full Tour de France 2027 route through Midlothian has been announced!" the Labour MP told constituents as organisers unveiled the details.
The men's Grand Départ will begin in Edinburgh on Friday 2 July 2027, the first time the race has started in Scotland, before a 184-kilometre opening stage south to Carlisle.
The route through Midlothian
Riders will enter Midlothian on the A7, passing Dobbies Garden Centre before the official race start on the A7 bridge over the River North Esk. The route then runs past the Tesco roundabout and the National Mining Museum Scotland in Newtongrange, on towards Gorebridge and the Fushiebridge depot near North Middleton, before heading into the Scottish Borders.
Midlothian Council expects more than 67,000 spectators in the county and is working with organisers, partners, businesses and communities to prepare. The race's famous publicity caravan will travel the route ahead of the riders.
Provost Debbi McCall said hosting part of the race would be "a once-in-a-generation moment for our communities, giving residents and visitors the chance to experience the atmosphere, spectacle and sporting drama right on their doorstep".
Roads on the route are expected to close for up to eight hours on race day, with emergency access maintained throughout. Detailed timings and traffic arrangements will be confirmed closer to the event.
Britain will be the first country outside France to host the Grand Départs of both the men's Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift in the same year.
