Jonathan Reynolds backs jobs plan for 22,400 professional services apprenticeships a year

The Business Secretary's department has published a jobs plan designed to strengthen skills pipelines in professional and business services across the UK.

The plan was developed with the Professional and Business Services Council and sets out joint action for government and industry. Firms in the sector have committed to recruiting 22,400 apprentices aged under 25 every year for the next five years, alongside a 20 per cent increase in work-experience opportunities for young people.

It proposes expanded apprenticeships, more work-experience opportunities and clearer routes into the sector for young people. The objective is to widen access while helping employers fill future skills gaps.

The document also places greater emphasis on lifelong learning as technology changes jobs and working practices. It links workforce resilience to productivity and the creation of high-quality employment.

Jonathan Reynolds's department said the approach should support opportunities across UK regions rather than concentrating growth in a small number of established centres.

The publication is a workforce strategy, not an immediate jobs guarantee or a new regional funding allocation. Delivery will depend on employers, education providers and government converting the commitments into accessible routes into work.
