The full-size 3G facility will support both football and rugby and is expected to open in spring 2027.

The Football Foundation is contributing £410,000. The remainder will come from developer contributions and a contribution from Coldean Colts, although the council has not published a detailed split between those sources.

Priority booking will be offered to clubs and groups delivering sessions for women and girls. The council also expects the pitch to expand year-round access for local teams and community organisations.

The start of construction was announced on 14 October. The announcement concerns work now under way rather than a new award of Football Foundation funding.

Robins is Brighton and Hove's Labour cabinet member for sports, recreation and libraries. The council has a Labour majority.
