Bella Sankey has opened the third and final phase of Brighton and Hove's Valley Gardens transport and public-realm project.

The £12.8 million scheme covers the route between the Royal Pavilion and the seafront. Construction began in November 2024 and the completed works were formally opened on Friday.
The project includes a 500-metre separated cycle lane, wider pavements and new public space. The former Aquarium roundabout has been replaced by a signal-controlled junction.
Thirty-five trees and 25 benches form part of the redesign, alongside planting and changes intended to make walking and cycling through the city centre safer and more direct.
Funding comprised £6 million from the former Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership, £4 million of council borrowing, £2.3 million from the Department for Transport and £500,000 in developer contributions.
Sankey said the completed phase would improve access between the city centre and seafront. The opening marks completion of the construction project rather than the announcement of a new funding award.
