The Labour MP for Rugby tabled the named-day question on 9 October. The Treasury is due to answer by 21 October.

His proposal would direct revenue raised from streaming platforms towards grassroots artists and music makers, though the question does not specify a rate or collection model.

No levy has been announced and the parliamentary question does not mean the Treasury has accepted the idea. The response will show whether ministers have examined it.

The intervention brings the funding of local and emerging creative work into the wider debate about how the value generated by online platforms is shared.
