Susan Brown has called on Oxfordshire County Council to review the coordination of roadworks after traffic disruption associated with the closure of Between Towns Road.

In a statement published on 9 October, Oxford City Council’s leader said the disruption had caused serious problems for residents and bus passengers in east Oxford.
Brown wants works to be planned more effectively, including consideration of school holidays and night working where practical. Responsibility for the highway arrangements rests with the county council.
She also asked for consideration of temporarily suspending relevant restrictions enforced by automatic number plate recognition where that would genuinely help traffic move.
That request came with qualifications. Brown recognised that changing restrictions could have consequences for cyclists and might produce limited benefits in some locations.
Her intervention seeks a review and practical relief from disruption. It does not announce that restrictions have been lifted, or that the city council has taken control of the county’s roadworks programme.
