The council announced the scheme on 8 October, working with BID Leicester to install twelve large planters around Market Street, King Street and St Martins.

Ten planters will go in Market Street and at its King Street end, with two more in St Martins. They will contain small trees, shrubs and drought-tolerant perennial plants.

The Labour city mayor said the improvements would help create a more attractive environment for people using the city centre.

The scheme is intended to strengthen the connection between New Walk and the Old Town, including the area around Leicester Cathedral.

Installation is scheduled to begin towards the end of October, with planting expected to finish by mid-November. The area will remain open, although some temporary disruption is possible.
