“I support—and have always supported—the position taken by Anas Sarwar that Keir Starmer should resign, and I have held this view for some time. While Kenny Gibson is keen to turn this into a debate about leadership at Westminster, there’s an old saying in the Three Towns: people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.
I am not afraid to call out my own party when I believe its leadership has fallen short. Yet Kenny Gibson has remained silent as John Swinney presided over the downgrading of working-class pupils’ exam results; silent as thousands have been left waiting for vital treatment; silent over the scandal at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital; and silent as his government spent nearly £500 million on two ferries that should have cost less than a fifth of that.
He has also said nothing as SNP-led North Ayrshire Council cut social care packages, hitting vulnerable people after years of underfunding under his party’s leadership.
So my challenge to Kenny Gibson is simple: when I see failure in my party, I speak out. When will he find the courage to do the same when it comes to John Swinney?"
