Bailey, who represents Town Centre and The Parks, was first elected to the council in 1997 and has also served as a Bracknell town councillor.

During his time in local government he held a number of senior roles, including cabinet member responsible for children and young people between 2023 and 2026.

Three decades with Thames Valley Police

Before entering local politics, Bailey spent around 30 years with Thames Valley Police, working in areas including CID, drugs enforcement and community relations before becoming head of training. He later moved into education and consultancy, and has served as a school governor for more than three decades.

Bailey told the Local Democracy Reporting Service that he would not seek another term when elections are held in May 2027, and will continue serving as a councillor until then.

His daughter, Olivia Bailey, is the Labour MP for Reading West and Mid Berkshire.
