The Carlisle MP told the Commons on Thursday that aerospace companies were interested in the site's former Blue Streak launch facilities and asked the Government to examine their possible modern use.

Science minister Chris McDonald said Spadeadam had clear potential and that a full assessment should be made alongside consideration of Britain's other launch facility in Shetland.
The commitment is to evaluate the site, not to fund or approve a rocket-testing programme. Technical suitability, defence requirements, environmental effects and commercial demand would all need further examination.
Spadeadam's history and existing infrastructure give the proposal a distinctive local foundation. A successful project could connect Cumbria more closely to the UK space and advanced-engineering sectors.
Minns also asked for a ministerial meeting, although the recorded response did not explicitly confirm one. The firm outcome is the agreement that the site's potential merits a full assessment.
The next measure of progress will be whether the Government establishes a defined process, timetable and comparison criteria for Spadeadam and other candidate facilities.
