Ealing Labour plans £1.6m investment in community teams across seven towns

The proposals, taken to cabinet by Cllr Lauren Wall, include nine new jobs and £300,000 in grants for local community organisations.

Labour-run Ealing Council is considering almost £1.6 million of investment in community support across the borough’s seven towns, including new staff and £300,000 in grants for local organisations.

The proposals include the creation of nine jobs, with six new community development officers working across Acton, Ealing, Greenford, Hanwell, Northolt, Perivale and Southall.

They are being taken to cabinet by Labour councillor Lauren Wall, Ealing’s Cabinet Member for Thriving Communities.

Earlier support, fewer crises

The council argues that closer links between residents, voluntary organisations and public services can provide support earlier and reduce the need for more expensive crisis interventions. The programme would also seek to improve coordination between local organisations and council services.

The council says pressures on housing, social care, children’s services and public health make preventative community work increasingly important.
