Clive Lewis has highlighted his support for Dawn Butler’s parliamentary motion commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Grunwick strike, honouring the workers who challenged poor conditions and helped reshape the trade union movement.

In a statement on 8 October, the Norwich South MP praised the predominantly Asian women workers in Willesden, Brent, who demonstrated solidarity across race, gender and class.
Jayaben Desai and the Grunwick women
Butler’s motion, tabled on 7 September, celebrates the courage and leadership of Jayaben Desai and the Grunwick women, who challenged poor working conditions after being denied union representation.
It also pays tribute to the late Labour MP Jack Dromey for helping ensure their legacy was remembered, and recognises the trade unionists and supporters who rallied behind the workers.
Dignity and fairness at work
The motion calls on the Government to honour that legacy by promoting dignity, equality and fairness at work. Lewis said he was proud to have added his support to the parliamentary tribute.
