The Southend West and Leigh MP is due to seek permission for legislation on wet-wipe labelling, sale and marketing on Wednesday.

David Burton-Sampson is preparing to bring a proposed wet-wipes bill before the Commons on Wednesday 14 October, with the use of 'flushable' on packaging expected to be a central issue.
The Labour MP for Southend West and Leigh is listed to present a Ten-Minute Rule Motion for the Wet Wipes (Labelling, Sale and Marketing) Bill.
The proposal comes amid concern that wipes flushed down toilets contribute to sewer blockages and pollution. Products marketed as flushable can still create problems in sewer networks.
The issue also extends to plastic-free wipes. Removing plastic from a product does not in itself mean it should be disposed of through the toilet.
Wednesday's motion will give Burton-Sampson an opportunity to make the case for introducing legislation. It is an initial parliamentary step, with the proposed restrictions still to be considered rather than an approved change to the law.
