Community general secretary Alasdair McDiarmid has announced plans for a new National Organising Unit as he sets out his priorities following his election.

In a question-and-answer interview published on 16 October, McDiarmid identified sustainable membership growth as a central objective. He said the new unit would help Community take advantage of stronger trade union access rights.
McDiarmid also stressed the importance of listening to workplace representatives and members, saying their knowledge of their industries should inform the union's work.
Reflecting on Community's development, he highlighted its expansion from a largely single-sector organisation into a union representing workers across a wider range of industries.
His organising plans provide a practical next step beyond the leadership change announced earlier this month.
