Worcester City Council has secured £1.3 million over three years to support people in the city who are sleeping rough or at risk of doing so, Labour council leader Councillor Lynn Denham has said.

The funding comes through the Government’s Rough Sleeping Programme and will help people access accommodation and support through a range of initiatives.
Outreach, accommodation and intensive support
The council says it will work with partners across the city to deliver proactive outreach, additional accommodation options and intensive support so that the investment makes a lasting difference.
The money is in addition to funding already available through the Government’s Long Term Rough Sleeper Innovation Programme.
Denham: tackling rough sleeping is an absolute priority
Councillor Lynn Denham, Leader of Worcester City Council, said:
“This is excellent news and I welcome the additional funding from the Government.”
She added:
“Tackling homelessness and rough sleeping is an absolute priority for the City Council and the dedicated network of partners who work closely with us.”
Denham said the new funding would help the council further support those experiencing rough sleeping in Worcester.
“The issues of homelessness and rough sleeping are not just about housing, and they are not challenges that the City Council can solve alone.”
She continued:
“We are committed to working closely with our partners to deliver meaningful and lasting change for Worcester.”
“This additional funding will enable our housing team to build on the local partnership working which has already been established.”
The City Council says it will work closely with existing homelessness services to maximise the benefits of the additional funding for people who need it most.
