I don't think we can prevent the splintering of the Political options. There are a high number of voters who read the simple answers available on social media and believe them. People will always want more for themselves and Reform point at a scapegoat - 'foreigners' as the reason why they are feeling the pinch. Ramsgate Town Council recently elected a Bangladeshi Mayor who has been running a restaurant in the town for many years. Someone posted on Facebook -'we shouldn't have foreigners as mayors'. Thanet District Council had the only UKIP council in 2015. Even then, I didn't experience the level of Racism we do now. This racism is being fed by a perception that no-one listens to them. I'm afraid that we do have to engage with the less racist Reform voters and Proportional representation is a way to do this, at the same time as preventing Farage from becoming prime minister.
There are a number of Proportional Representation systems. I favour one where there are some Constituency MPs, topped up by other MPS who make up the numbers according to the national proportion of votes.
