Crewe Regeneration Reaches New Milestone with Opening of TownSq Business Hub
A major new business and innovation hub has officially opened in Crewe town centre, marking the latest milestone in the town's wider regeneration programme.
TownSq Crewe, a new 20,000-square-foot flexible workspace located within the refurbished Municipal Building on Heath Street, was formally opened by Judy Snowball, who described the project as "a significant milestone in the continuing regeneration of Crewe."
The development has transformed the former council offices into a modern workspace offering private offices, co-working facilities and meeting rooms, alongside opportunities for networking, collaboration and business support.
The project forms part of Crewe's broader regeneration strategy, which aims to revitalise the town centre, encourage investment and create new opportunities for businesses and residents.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mayor Judy Snowball said the new facility represented more than simply a refurbished building.
"Places like this play a vital role in the life of a town. They are more than just physical spaces; they are places where people can come together, where businesses can grow, and where new ideas can take shape."
The Mayor said the project reflected the town's response to changing patterns of work, retail and economic activity.
"TownSq Crewe represents a direct response to that challenge. It reflects a clear vision: to create a high-quality, flexible space that supports enterprise, encourages investment, and provides new opportunities for local people."
TownSq Crewe has been delivered through a partnership supported by the Government's Future High Streets Fund and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, with the aim of creating a modern business hub capable of supporting start-ups, entrepreneurs and established companies.
Council leaders believe developments such as TownSq will help increase footfall in the town centre while supporting local economic growth.
The Mayor added:
"Developments like this help drive footfall, support local businesses, and give people more reasons to visit, whether to work, shop, socialise or simply spend time here."
The facility will be operated by Town Square Spaces Ltd, which specialises in managing collaborative workspaces and business communities.
TownSq is one element of Crewe's wider £100 million regeneration programme, which also includes investment in the Lifestyle Centre, Market Hall, University Technical College, Dome Youth Zone and Cheshire Archive.
Together, these projects are intended to reshape the town centre and support Cheshire East Council's long-term ambition of establishing Crewe as one of Europe's leading small cities by 2050.
Closing the ceremony, the Mayor said the long-term success of the development would depend on the businesses and organisations that choose to make it their home.
"The final word should go to the businesses and organisations that will be based here; your ambition and commitment will truly bring this space to life."
TownSq Crewe is now open, with workspace, offices and meeting facilities available to businesses, entrepreneurs and community organisations as the latest phase of the town's regeneration programme gets underway.
