Worcester City Council has led the delivery of a £53 million capital investment programme, through its Town Investment Plan, supporting skills training in the city, major regeneration and tourism projects, and boosts to active travel.

Worcester City Council has led the delivery of a £53 million capital investment programme, through its Town Investment Plan, supporting skills training in the city, major regeneration and tourism projects, and boosts to active travel.

The Council was awarded £19.6 million in 2021 from the Government's Towns Fund and has used that to support a further £33 million of investment by partners.

The success of the Town Investment Plan is set out in a report that will be considered by the Council's Policy and Resources Committee on 30 June.

Councillor Lynn Denham, Leader of the Council and chair of the committee, said: "This investment has created real benefits to our city that have and will continue to improve the quality of life for our residents and visitors.

"It's helped us boost skills training in the heart of our communities, enhanced the appeal of the historic Commandery building, provided new and improved routes for active travel and much more.

"Through our close work with partners, the impact of this significant investment can be seen now and will continue to benefit the city in the years to come."

The Commandery - The historic building and museum has been being upgraded with a new display area to house the new Worcestershire Solider display, developed in partnership with The Mercian Regiment Museum (Worcestershire) Trust and the Worcestershire Yeomanry Trust Museum. Other improvements include a remodelled shop and reception, and improved security. Shrub Hill Quarter regeneration - A new direct cycling and walking route from Shrub Hill to the City Centre has been opened, and the Town Investment Plan will fund the regeneration of the 1930s Isaac Maddox House to provide over 2,000 square metres of new offices and workshops St Andrew's Gardens - Improvements to the beautiful Deansway park include enhancements to its heritage and a new accessible gradient route between Quay Street and Copenhagen Street Worcester Cathedral - The Town Investment Plan contributed to a landscaping project that has created an attractive new link between High Street and the Cathedral, and enhancements to the main North Porch entrance University of Worcester's Elizabeth Garrett Anderson House - The Towns Fund grant contributed to the creation of the new multidisciplinary learning centre for medical and health care professions Building Bock 2, Dines Green - a newly-built construction skills training centre that has supported over 900 learners since opening in April 2025 The Tolly Hub, Tolladine - New meeting / training room with acoustic insulation The Green Hub, Dines Green - Refurbishment of the foyer to provide new IT training facilities King George V, Brickfields - New facilities to support the provision of training Ronkswood Hub - New facilities and two new meeting rooms to improve training facilities, plus solar panels to reduce energy costs Warndon Hub - Acoustic cladding in main hall Horizon Hub, Midland Road - New IT training facilities and solar panels to reduce energy costs Fairfield Learning Centre, Warndon - £50,000 contribution to a full refurbishment that has created new adult education facilities St Peter's Village Hall - £140,000 towards the creation of the new community centre, including a training room Kepax Bridge - A contribution to Worcestershire County Council's new footbridge over the Severn from Gheluvelt Park to the river's west bank Active Travel corridors - Three upgraded routes for walking, cycling and wheeling have been created: on the canal towpath north of Perdiswell, completing a route from Diglis to Sixways; a link from Diglis Bridge through Cherry Orchard nature reserve to Waverley Street and St Marks Close; and an improved route from Diglis to Norton via St Peter's Beryl bike hire scheme Secure cycle lockers at the Foregate Street arches.
