In a public statement, the Bournemouth East MP said the council still had an opportunity to reconsider and encouraged concerned residents to contact him and their councillors.

SOBO Beach's current lease expires on 31 October. The operator says it was not selected as the preferred bidder following a tender for the site's future operation.

Hayes has warned that delays in the process could leave the site vacant. The existing operator has proposed a rolling lease while a new tender is conducted.

The council says it was legally required to tender the opportunity and remains committed to a continuing hospitality offer on Southbourne beach. Councillors are due to discuss the proposed lease at a full council meeting on 13 October.
