Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram will lead the region’s first trade and investment mission to India from 12 October, promoting an £11 billion investment pipeline during visits to Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

The delegation will promote £11 billion of investment opportunities, the city region’s £2 billion investment fund, its Freeport and its Innovation Zone.
Rotheram will join other northern leaders in Delhi and Mumbai before attending the opening of the University of Liverpool’s new campus in Bengaluru on 14 October. A smaller delegation will also visit Hyderabad.
Life sciences, manufacturing and sport
The programme will concentrate on life sciences, advanced manufacturing, digital technology, sport, culture and the visitor economy. Liverpool FC Foundation and the Premier League will take part in elements of the mission.
Rotheram said the visit was intended to build long-term commercial relationships and attract jobs and investment. The combined authority cited a 2024 mission to the United States which preceded a Kyndryl investment expected to create up to 1,000 jobs.
Building on the UK-India trade deal
The visit follows the UK-India trade agreement that came into force in July. Government analysis estimates that agreement could add £210 million a year to the North West economy, although the mission itself is promotional and no new investment outcome has yet been secured.
