Councillor Shiraz Khan has opened a public consultation on Derby's draft Air Quality Action Plan for 2026 to 2031.

The proposals cover public transport, walking and cycling, transport improvements, domestic heating, planning policy and emissions from the council's own vehicle fleet.
Derby says air quality in the city is generally good and complies with current legal limits. The plan seeks further improvement in line with government guidance and World Health Organisation guidelines.
One of its central aims is to reduce diesel emissions through sustainable transport and active-travel measures. The programme would replace the previous 2019-25 plan.
Residents and other stakeholders can comment until 1pm on 24 December. The council says it worked with communities, businesses and neighbouring authorities to prepare the draft.
Khan is Derby City Council's Labour deputy leader and cabinet member for housing, strategic planning and regulatory services. Labour operates a minority administration because the council remains under no overall control.
