Scottish Labour claims Glasgow missed out on £357m in funding

Michael Marra's comparison drew a response from the Scottish Government, which cited its 2026-27 council settlement.

Scottish Labour leader Michael Marra says Glasgow City Council would have received £357 million more in 2025–26 if its funding had risen in line with the Scottish Government’s block grant.

The claim is based on Labour’s analysis of the council’s allocation over time. Deputy First Minister Jenny Gilruth responded that the 2026–27 budget provides almost £15.7 billion for Scotland’s councils, including more than £1.8 billion for Glasgow. The two figures refer to different years and comparisons.
