Sarah Sackman has asked local authorities across England and Wales to let prison vans use bus lanes where congestion is delaying defendants' arrival at court.

More than 1,000 court cases were delayed on the day they were due to proceed last year because defendants did not arrive on time.
A route between HMP Forest Bank and Manchester Crown Court has cut journey times by up to a third, according to the Ministry of Justice.
Schemes have also operated in Bristol, Salford and Nottingham. The government has now written to every local authority seeking wider adoption.
Prisoner escort vehicles make about 350,000 movements to court each year, making transport delays a significant operational pressure on court schedules.
The initiative comes as the Crown Court backlog stands at 80,829 cases. Ministers have also created a Prisoner Delivery Oversight Board to identify causes of delay and hold providers to account.
Sackman described bus-lane access as a simple practical change. The proposal is separate from virtual-hearing pilots already reported by Labour Home and will require decisions by individual councils before it has national effect.
