Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has announced a further £875,000 investment to help communities across the capital tackle hate crime, intolerance and extremism.
The funding will be delivered through the Mayor’s Shared Endeavour Fund, supporting grassroots organisations across London’s 32 boroughs to provide workshops and training in schools and local communities.
Projects will help Londoners recognise and challenge hateful and extremist narratives, tackle misinformation online, prevent radicalisation and protect young people who may be vulnerable to extremist influences.
The announcement comes amid a rise in antisemitic and anti-Muslim hate across the capital. There were 994 antisemitic hate crimes recorded in London during the first six months of 2026, an increase of 24 per cent compared with the same period last year.
There were also 1,031 reports of anti-Muslim hate and prejudice during the first half of the year, already exceeding the 1,028 reports recorded throughout the whole of 2023.
Khan said: “There’s absolutely no place for hate crime in our capital and I’m committed to working with partners to help tackle this scourge.”
The Labour Mayor said the attacks experienced by London’s Jewish and Muslim communities demonstrated the need for continued vigilance and decisive action.
He warned that a small minority were attempting to exploit conflict in the Middle East to create division but insisted they would not succeed, saying Londoners would remain united against hatred.
The Shared Endeavour Fund focuses on strengthening communities against extremism, helping people stand up to hate and intolerance, safeguarding those vulnerable to radicalisation and preventing the spread of harmful ideologies.
Since its launch, the programme has supported more than 130 projects and worked with over 200,000 Londoners. The latest funding round is expected to support up to 20 projects and reach approximately 50,000 people.
Community organisations previously supported by the fund include projects challenging antisemitism and anti-Muslim hostility, interfaith education initiatives and programmes helping young people and frontline practitioners understand the dangers of extreme-right ideologies.
Commander Helen Flanagan, head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, described the scale of the radicalisation threat facing children and young people as deeply concerning.
She warned that online platforms and emerging technologies were giving extremists new opportunities to target people vulnerable to radicalisation, stressing that protecting young Londoners required coordinated action from the police, schools, local authorities, families and community organisations.
Since 2016, Khan has invested around £17 million in initiatives to tackle hate crime and extremism across the capital.
The Mayor said the new funding would help protect London’s diverse communities, promote mutual respect and give more people the confidence and knowledge needed to challenge hate and intolerance.
