The Labour mayor set out support for the creative industries at the West Midlands Growth Summit in Coventry on 8 October. The combined authority published details the following day.

Producers can submit expressions of interest through Production Central WM. The announcement also includes a third round of the IP Content Fund, supporting the development of original projects.

Parker said the funds would give more people opportunities to build creative careers within the region.

The measures sit within a wider £100 million package of investment assembled with regional partners. That total includes increased BBC production spending and innovation programmes, rather than a single new grant fund.

The authority said the approach would support jobs, skills and studio space, with the development of Birmingham’s Digbeth creative cluster central to its plans.
