Prime Minister Andy Burnham hosted President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at His Majesty’s Naval Base, Portsmouth, pledging to deepen diplomatic and military cooperation and stand firmly with the Ukrainian people.

The meeting underscored the government’s commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and security as the war continues, with discussions covering drone projects, missile defence and wider defence industrial cooperation.

ITV News reported that Mr Burnham pledged unwavering support for Ukraine during the visit, while the Associated Press said the two leaders discussed practical steps to strengthen Kyiv’s defences.

The Prime Minister said the bond between the United Kingdom and Ukraine would continue under his government, building on the support provided since Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Labour has consistently argued that Britain’s security is linked to the outcome of the war in Ukraine, and that standing with allies remains a core responsibility of government.

Labour Home will continue to report on UK-Ukraine cooperation as diplomatic and military support evolves.
