Pat McFadden opens Exeter youth hub with employment and housing support

The new St James Park service will bring Jobcentre help, training, mental-health support and housing advice together for 16 to 24-year-olds.

Pat McFadden has announced the opening of a youth hub at St James Park in Exeter, offering employment and wider support to people aged 16 to 24.

The hub will open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and provide CV advice, skills training, mental-health support, housing advice and careers guidance.

It will bring together Jobcentre Plus, Exeter City Community Trust, Exeter College, Co-Labs, Young Devon and the YMCA, alongside employers and training providers.

Young people will be able to receive direct help with job and apprenticeship opportunities rather than being referred between separate services.

The Exeter site forms part of the government's plan to establish a youth hub in every local area of Great Britain over the next three years.

Ministers have committed £2.5 billion to the wider Youth Guarantee, which is intended to give young people routes into work, education or training.

The local opening gives that national commitment a physical base in Exeter. Its effectiveness will depend on the number of young people reached and how many move into sustained work or learning.
