The appointment is subject to contract and a standstill period, making it a development milestone rather than final planning approval or the start of construction.

Growing Digbeth’s film and TV cluster

The proposal is intended to expand Digbeth’s film and television cluster while creating homes, business space and employment opportunities around existing institutions including BBC Studioworks and the Custard Factory.

Parker said the decision advanced his ambition to make Digbeth a nationally significant centre for creative industries and to invest in local talent.

Homes England said the development would celebrate the district’s industrial heritage while opening more space for creative businesses, residents and visitors.

Next steps

The development team previously converted the site’s Banana Warehouse into the MasterChef studio. Detailed proposals will now be taken forward with Homes England, Birmingham City Council and the West Midlands Combined Authority.
