McCarthy urges residents to examine M32 viaduct renewal plans

Public engagement sessions offer Bristol residents an opportunity to question National Highways about major works planned from 2029.

Kerry McCarthy has encouraged residents to attend public engagement sessions on the planned renewal of Bristol’s M32 Eastville Viaduct.

The Bristol East Labour MP highlighted the events in a public Facebook post reproduced on her constituency website.

National Highways is holding sessions at Tesco Extra’s Eastgate Road car park on 7, 8 and 9 October to explain the scheme, answer questions and gather local information.

The remaining sessions run from noon until 8pm on Thursday 8 October and from 9am until 2pm on Friday 9 October.

Main construction is planned to begin in 2029. The work includes repairing or replacing concrete and steel, resurfacing the viaduct and replacing bridge bearings and joints.

National Highways says the project is intended to keep the ageing structure safe, rather than increase motorway capacity.

It plans to maintain two lanes in each direction where possible during construction. The engagement events concern an existing renewal project, not a newly announced funding award.
