Labour MP Maureen Burke has secured an offer from Prime Minister Andy Burnham to pioneer a Manchester-style multi-agency approach to tackling crime in Glasgow city centre.

At Prime Minister's Questions, the Glasgow North East MP cited a BBC Disclosure documentary that exposed violence, open drug dealing, child exploitation and 1,200 sexual offences recorded in the city centre in the year to March 2026.
Maureen Burke: 'Call for help'
Maureen Burke said there must be an honest discussion about addiction, deprivation, immigration and community cohesion. She argued SNP underfunding had crippled local public services, said Glasgow City Council's response had fallen short, and accused Reform of exploiting public safety fears to stoke racial division.
She asked the Prime Minister to support a co-ordinated response to make Glasgow safer.
Andy Burnham: Operation Vulcan model
Andy Burnham said policing is devolved, but that he was "very open" to working with the SNP government, Police Scotland and Glasgow City Council.
As Mayor of Greater Manchester he had brought forward Operation Vulcan, a multi-agency approach in Cheetham Hill that he said "did rip out entrenched criminality". He offered to talk to Maureen Burke about pioneering that approach in Glasgow.
After PMQs, Maureen Burke said she would take up the meeting offer and that people in positions of power in Glasgow needed to take city-centre violence more seriously.
