Lord is the commissioner of Transport for London and previously served as a non-executive director and board member of Defence Equipment and Support until March.

The advisory board is intended to provide independent challenge on the group's strategy, performance and management of risk as it moves to a more integrated governance model.

Three specialist committees will support the board, covering nominations and remuneration, audit and risk assurance, and safety and security.

The role is non-executive and does not form part of the group's management structure. Pollard's appointment runs until 30 April 2027 and was made under the Governance Code on Public Appointments.

The decision brings outside leadership experience into the oversight of defence procurement, but it does not change Lord's position as Transport for London commissioner.
