Labour MP Lucy Powell has joined Labour campaigners as the party begins its effort to win the forthcoming Failsworth West council by-election.

The Labour MP for Manchester Central praised Oldham and Manchester Labour teams for campaigning across her constituency on Saturday and Sunday, 3 and 4 October, as part of Labour’s National Campaign Weekend.
Powell: ‘Fantastic’
In a post on Sunday evening, Powell described the teams as “Fantastic” and welcomed the launch of campaigning in Failsworth West.
“It was great to also kick off campaigning for the by-election in Failsworth West, which will be held on Thursday 12th November,” she wrote.

Photographs accompanying the post showed Powell alongside campaigners carrying Labour literature.
The contest will fill a vacancy on Oldham Council following the resignation of Councillor Mark Wilkinson. The council published its formal vacancy notice on 25 September.
Powell’s update places the local by-election campaign alongside Labour’s wider weekend activity, with teams from Oldham and Manchester working together ahead of the contest.
