Lord Hendy has welcomed the Northumberland Line recording more than two million passenger journeys since it reopened in December 2024.

The route restored passenger services between Newcastle and Ashington after an absence of more than 60 years.
Government support for the programme totalled £300 million, contributing to new stations and infrastructure along the corridor.
The full route now serves Newcastle, Manors, Northumberland Park, Seaton Delaval, Newsham, Blyth Bebside, Bedlington and Ashington.
The milestone follows the opening of Bedlington station in March, when the line had already exceeded one million journeys.
The latest figure records passenger use rather than a new funding award. Local partners are continuing to argue for future extensions towards Woodhorn and Newbiggin.
