London Young Labour described the event as its summer campaign day and social, thanking members who travelled to the borough to support the local Labour team.

Writing on X, the group said: “What a turnout for LYL’s summer campaign day and social.”

It added: “Thanks to everyone who came along and supported the Wandsworth Labour team in a crucial by-election this Thursday that will determine who controls the Council.”

The campaign comes amid an unusually high-stakes contest for a single council seat, with the result potentially determining the balance of power at Wandsworth Town Hall.

That has made the by-election a significant organisational test for Labour, with activists being encouraged to campaign in the borough in the final days before polling stations open.

Saturday’s turnout demonstrated the role Young Labour activists continue to play in the party’s grassroots campaigning operation in London, particularly in marginal contests where relatively small numbers of votes can determine the outcome.

Images shared by London Young Labour showed dozens of campaigners gathered with Labour placards before heading out to speak with voters.

The organisation also used the event as an opportunity to bring young Labour members together socially, combining campaigning with efforts to strengthen its activist network across the capital.

With polling day now approaching, Labour campaigners are expected to continue doorstep activity and voter contact across the ward as the party seeks to secure the seat and determine the future political control of Wandsworth Council.

London Young Labour said further campaign and social events would be announced through its social media channels.
