Labour Unveils 10-Year Plan to Rebuild and Modernise Schools

The Education Secretary has unveiled a 10-year strategy to transform England’s education estate, backed by more than £3.7 billion in funding.

The plan aims to ensure classrooms are modern, resilient to climate change and fit for purpose — addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges including flooding, overheating and structural concerns.

Every secondary school will be equipped with an inclusion base — a dedicated safe space providing targeted support for pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The policy is designed to bridge the gap between mainstream and specialist provision.

More than £700 million has also been allocated to a new Renewal and Retrofit Programme to fix leaky roofs, repair heating systems and strengthen flood resilience.

Labour says the strategy marks a decisive break from years of underinvestment and aims to rebuild crumbling school infrastructure so that every child can achieve and thrive.
