Labour Peers & Representatives

Beyond the House of Commons, the Labour Party has a significant presence in the House of Lords and holds key elected positions across the country, including powerful metropolitan mayoralties.

Labour in the House of Lords

As of mid-2025, the Labour Party is the second-largest group in the House of Lords, with 212 members. Led by Baroness Smith of Basildon, this group of peers plays a vital role in scrutinising legislation and holding the government to account. Following the 2024 election, a number of new life peerages were created to bolster Labour's representation in the upper house, including former MPs and external experts.
