Prime Minister Keir Starmer used his Leader’s Speech to announce a major breakthrough in healthcare: the creation of NHS Online, a new digital platform that will deliver the equivalent of 8.5 million appointments and assessments in three years.

Patients will be able to consult specialists online, book scans and tests at convenient Community Diagnostic Centres, and access care more quickly.

Health SecretaryWes Streetingalso confirmed a landmark£500 million Fair Pay Agreement for adult care workers, raising pay and conditions in a sector that has been undervalued for too long.

In its first year, the Labour government has already delivered:

  • 5 million more NHS appointments

  • 200,000 fewer people on waiting lists

  • 2,000 more GPs recruited

  • Extended evening and weekend diagnostics

Rachel Reeves summed it up:“The NHS – created by a Labour Government. Protected by every Labour Government. And renewed – by this Labour Government.”
