The Labour government is introducing tougher safeguards against online abuse through amendments to the Crime and Policing Bill, requiring platforms to remove intimate images shared without consent within 48 hours of being reported. Non-compliant firms could face major fines or service restrictions.

Regulator Ofcom is also exploring stronger enforcement tools, including treating such material with the same severity as terrorism and child sexual abuse content and using digital watermarking to prevent reposting. The reforms highlight Labour’s commitment to tackling misogyny and protecting women and girls online.
