Labour gears up for biggest electoral test of the Parliament

Labour is preparing for a major electoral challenge in 2026, with contests spanning Scotland, Wales and a wide range of English local authorities. The party currently holds outright control of 66 of the 136 councils up for election, alongside 17 in coalition or minority control, and around 2,300 of the 5,000 seats being contested.

With control of key local services at stake, the elections are expected to play a significant role in shaping the political landscape ahead of the next general election.
