Labour Delivers More Specialist Teachers for Classrooms

Aspiring teachers in key subjects such as maths, physics and computing will receive bursaries worth up to £31,000 as part of Labour’s drive to boost education standards nationwide.

The Labour government has launched a major new package to attract and retain top talent in teaching, with record bursaries and scholarships available for trainees in high-demand subjects.

SEND-specialist trainees will receive £15,000, while those training to teach English will get £10,000. In addition, schools will receive up to £29,000 to cover the cost of training apprentices in subjects such as mathematics, chemistry and computing — with apprentices earning a salary while they train.

The scheme, part of Labour’s education plan to ensure every child “gets the opportunities they deserve,” is expected to deliver 6,500 new specialist teachers across the country.

“We’re rebuilding respect for the teaching profession and giving every pupil access to the best educators,” said the Education Secretary.

The initiative is another step in Labour’s mission to raise standards and close attainment gaps in schools nationwide.
