"Energy independence is not just a means to protect businesses and households from damaging fossil fuel volatility. It's a chance to drive billions of pounds of capital into our wider economy.
"Investors will want to see future legislation address challenges that have undermined financing for renewable infrastructure projects across decades, such as planning consent delays and grid connection bottlenecks.
"As the UK grapples with one of the largest oil and gas supply shocks in history, it's critical that this new statute breaks down the barriers blocking global investment from flowing into our country."
