Labour councillor Joanne Green has joined Manchester City Council’s executive with responsibility for health and adult social care, completing council leader Garry Bridges’s executive team.

Her appointment follows Thomas Robinson’s move to become one of the authority’s two deputy leaders.
The portfolio includes support for older people, prevention, mental health, learning disabilities, public health and reducing health inequalities.
A councillor since 1998
Green has served as a councillor since 1998 and previously spent four years chairing the Health Scrutiny Committee. She most recently chaired the Communities and Equality Scrutiny Committee.
She said helping residents remain healthy and live independently was a vital council responsibility, alongside support for those who need additional care.
Green said improvement required listening, learning and being honest about services that needed to work better. Manchester’s adult social care service was recently rated good by the Care Quality Commission.
Bridges welcomed her experience and said the completed executive could focus on delivering the city’s priorities.
