Amanda Hack has questioned how North West Leicestershire District Council communicated problems with its planned food-waste collection service after the launch was delayed until next year.
The Labour MP said she had not been made aware of difficulties and had instead received assurances that the rollout remained on schedule.
Collections were due to begin in November. The council now expects the first phase to start in early 2027.
The authority attributed the postponement to problems with the production and supply of new two-wheeled bins, alongside delays affecting its collection vehicles.
It said worsening global manufacturing and supply-chain constraints had affected delivery of the vehicles.
The first phase is intended to cover homes in Coalville, Whitwick, New Swannington, Hugglescote and Thringstone.
Responding to criticism about communication, the council said it had waited until the situation was clear before informing the public, to avoid creating further confusion.
