The former Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Dr Matt Lamb, has handed over a cheque for £15,648 to his chosen charity.

During his year in office, Cllr Lamb raised funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice. This complemented his theme as Mayor, which was “learning”.

Cllr Lamb held a variety of fundraising events in support of the charity, which supports local children and teenagers.

Cllr Lamb said: “It was a real privilege to serve as Mayor of Worcester over the past year, and I am incredibly proud to present this donation to Acorns Children’s Hospice.

“The generosity shown by residents, local organisations and everyone who supported my fundraising events will help to make a meaningful difference.”

Acorns Children’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and support for their families.

The charity provides its specialist care from its three hospices, based in Worcester, off Bath Road, Birmingham and Walsall, in family homes and in the local community.

Acorns care wraps around the whole family, not just the child, with the charity also providing practical help, emotional support and guidance for parents, siblings and grandparents.

They also help families create lasting memories during the most difficult of times. In the past year, the charity has cared for more than 800 children across the West Midlands, and supported over 1,100 families, including those who are bereaved. Children visit Acorns for clinically supported stays, symptom management, emergency and end-of-life care.
