Equinor chief executive Anders Opedal raised concerns over the future of the Jackdaw gas field and the Rosebank oil development.

Both projects had previously secured approval before legal challenges required their environmental impact to be reconsidered following court rulings on emissions assessments. Fresh decisions are now required.

Weighing the evidence

Fahnbulleh has said the Government is considering all the evidence before reaching its conclusions.

The decisions will test Labour’s approach to balancing energy security, employment in North Sea communities and the transition to clean energy. The Government has said oil and gas will continue to play a role during that transition, while maintaining that Britain’s long-term energy security depends on expanding domestic clean power.
