Dame Emily Thornberry’s Foreign Affairs Committee will hold a joint public session with its German counterpart on 13 October, giving MPs and German parliamentarians a shared public platform on foreign policy.

The hearing, announced on 8 October, will begin at 10.10am in Parliament’s Wilson Room and bring together members of the House of Commons and Bundestag committees.
The session will examine shared foreign-policy challenges as the two countries develop their partnership under the Kensington Treaty.
Thornberry, Labour MP for Islington South and Finsbury and chair of the Commons committee, welcomed closer cooperation on security and foreign affairs.
Ukraine and the Middle East
The committee’s announcement identifies Russia’s war against Ukraine and diplomacy in the Middle East among the issues shaping cooperation between the UK, Germany and France.
The joint hearing gives parliamentarians an opportunity to scrutinise that cooperation publicly, rather than leaving the relationship solely to discussions between governments.
